If you want a roof edge that looks finished (and stays protected), barge capping is the detail that matters. Also called barge cappings, barge flashing, or roof edge flashing, it’s installed along the gable end of the roof to cover the sheet edge and the barge board. The result is a cleaner line, an attractive finish, and a stronger barrier against wind-driven rainwater working back under the roof edge.
All of our barge capping is manufactured locally from .55 BMT genuine BlueScope Steel, available in COLORBOND® or ZINCALUME®, and made cut to length for your job. COLORBOND® steel is designed to endure harsh Australian environments and provide long-lasting durability. Additionally, COLORBOND® steel is coated with enhanced corrosion-resistant technology for superior protection.
The most commonly ordered option is the COLORBOND® Barge Capping Roof Flashing profile. (The standard “roof edge” shape many builders and online customers choose first). It’s designed to:
Cover the roof sheet edge cleanly
Return down over the barge board and roof wall line
Suit common Australian roof profiles ie corrugated custom orb and typical gable detailing.
If you’re unsure what type you need, start with the popular profile and match it to your existing roof measurements.
We manufacture custom flashings to suit a wide range of Australian roofing profiles, including corrugated and Trimdek, with klip lok applications available where required.
Barge cappings play a vital role in a wide range of roofing applications, providing a durable and attractive finish to the roof edge while protecting against the elements. Designed to suit popular Australian roof profiles—including corrugated, Trimdek, and Klip-Lok our barge cappings are the ideal solution for both new builds and roof replacements. Whether you’re working with metal roof sheeting or need to cover the barge board and wall junction, our products are engineered to meet the specific requirements of your site.
When planning your project, it’s important to check the measurements of your roof edge and review the available sizes and profiles to ensure the best fit. Our range includes standard barge caps in various lengths, as well as custom flashings designed to suit unique roof details or longer coverage needs. If you require apron flashings to complement your barge capping and create a comprehensive barrier against rainwater, we can provide tailored solutions to match your roof and wall configuration.

Barge capping cost varies by profile, measurements, steel finish, and length. Larger returns and more complex roof profiles generally cost more than a standard barge cap. Select your options above to see pricing.
Yes — barge capping is a type of roof flashing for the verge (barge) edge. Other flashings (like apron flashing) are used at roof-to-wall junctions and different transitions.
With correct installation and compatible fasteners, .55 BMT BlueScope Steel barge capping in COLORBOND® or ZINCALUME® is built for long-term performance. Regular inspections should be conducted for barge capping to check for rust, loose fasteners, or cracked sealant. Longevity depends on exposure, detailing at the roof edge, and correct sealing where required. Neutral-cure silicone sealant should be used on all laps and under the flashing to avoid corrosion.
For optimal performance and durability, follow these best practices when installing barge capping:
Maintain a minimum overlap of 100mm to 150mm between barge capping lengths, always positioning the top piece in the direction of water flow to prevent leaks.
Use precise, custom-folded metal barge capping to effectively prevent water, wind-driven rain, and vermin from entering the building envelope.
Secure the flashing using roofing screws, as this method provides higher shear capacity and a more secure installation.
Always install laps in the direction of water flow to minimise the risk of leaks.
For longitudinal joints, a minimum overlap of 150mm is recommended for reliable weatherproofing.
